Galaxy Opal® Moon Cabochon White Opal Green Fire
(Only moon shaped opals until next order)
The fire of natural opal. The resilience of a lab. Galaxy Opal® is chemically identical to natural precious opal — composed of silica and water — delivering the same vivid play-of-colour and fire, with the extraordinary added benefit of heat resistance up to 900°C. Fireable in metal clay, kiln, torch, and compatible with borosilicate glass. Real opal. Unmined. Uncompromising.
- Lab-grown over approximately one year — chemically identical to natural opal
- Composed of silica and water — no resin
- No cracking, crazing or yellowing
- Crisp white with vivid green fire flash
- Heat resistant up to 900°C — compatible with borosilicate glass (33 COE)
- Suitable for glassblowing, lampworking, metal clay, kiln firing and torch firing
- Works well with jewellery plating
- Flat backed — ideal for resin inlay and clay work
Please note: These moon cabochons are 1mm depth — shallower than standard cabochons. This makes them perfect for resin inlay, clay embedding, and surface-set applications, but they are not recommended for bezel setting as the low profile does not provide sufficient purchase for most standard bezels.
Technical details: Mohs hardness 5.5 · Specific gravity 1.90–2.20 · Heat resistance up to 900°C. Chemical resistance to Thinner, Methanol, Acetone (OTHER CHEMICALS CAN DAMAGE THE OPAL.)
Perfect for pendants, statement jewellery, metal clay, glass blowing, inlay in glass, glass fusing, and resin work.
